1) The Los Angeles Zoo
The Los Angeles Zoo is one of the nation’s largest and most popular zoos. Spanning 133 acres of Griffith Park, the zoo offers over 250 species of birds, mammals, reptiles and more. Regular shows include "World of Birds" and elephant training among many other seasonal shows. The Los Angeles Zoo also features special installations from time to time, such as an extensive reptile exhibit or a marine life area. Tickets range from $12 – $17 for a day pass and one-year memberships begin at $49.
2) The Hollywood Walk of Fame
No trip to LA is complete without a walk on the walk of fame. The Hollywood Walk of Fame features 2,400+ stars, representing the most popular cultural icons in Television, Film, Music, Theater and Radio. Covering many blocks surrounding Hollywood and Highland avenues in Hollywood, California, you can tour the neighborhood of entertainment while taking pictures "with your favorite star". Naturally, there’s no cost, though the area is the center of tourism in the region, so there are plenty of shops to visit while you’re there.
3) Starline Tours
While your in Hollywood, a great family friendly option is the Starline tours bus. Offering double-decker buses and roofless vans, these tours drive around Hollywood, the hills and Beverly Hills, giving customers a great view of Los Angeles and star homes. Trips last from 1-2 hours and range widely in price, depending on where you go and what you want to see. Most rides leave from behind the Chinese Theater on Hollywood Boulevard.
4) Griffith Observatory
If you want to see some real stars, check out the Griffith Observatory in Griffith Park. A full-sized observatory with 3 large telescopes, this is the best place to see the night sky over Los Angeles. Even during the day, the walkways of the observatory are open to the public and provide amazing views of downtown, Hollywood and the Hollywood Sign. Best of all, admission is FREE.
5) The Santa Monica Pier
A day in LA isn’t complete without a day at the beach. Santa Monica offers the area’s largest pier at 1,600 feet long. The area includes restaurants, shops and an amusement park. Plenty of parking and easy access to the beach make it an great place to enjoy the water, enjoy some food or just enjoy a west coast sunset. Just up the road is the 3rd street promenade, a 3-block shopping district with even more places to check out!
