How to Do a Cartwheel

  1. A simple but suprisingly challenging acrobatic exercise, the cartwheel is something anyone can learn to do in a relatively short period of time. The first thing you should do before any physical exercise is stretch. You should always thouroughly stretch beforehand. There’s a difference between hobbling over your hands to miraculously connect your foot to the ground before your head and actully doing  a correct cartwheel. When this exercise is done right it can actully be pretty impressive to watch and it’s a good place to start if you are interested in becoming more agile.

    Keep Everything Straight

Stand with your feet about shoulder width apart and lock your knees. You will be tempted to bend them but if you do it correctly, it will only hurt you to bend your knees. In accordence you will want to keep your elbows locked the entire time. The last thing you want to do is drop the weight of your body down onto your head.

    Turn the Wheel

Extend both your arms out at about a forty five degree angle and throw your momentum down to the side of your dominent hand. Be sure to swing your leg over with as much force as you can. This will provide the momentum it takes to turn your body fully over. Next your non-dominent hand should touch the ground for support. If you have enough force, it shouldn’t take much arm strength at all to hold yourself up. Bend at the hips to get your foot to the ground and you have done it!
