  1.  Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman star in this classic which has captured the hearts of moviegovers since its release in 1942. Rick and Ilsa are former lovers who have not seen each other in years and he is shocked to discover she has shown up in his establishment. They both relive past memories and make some new ones, in spite of the onslaught involving World War II. The surprise ending involves the fact the two truly love each other, but do not end up a being a couple.

    Casablanca was nominated for several Oscars at the 16th Annual Academy Awards, including awards won for Outstanding Motion Picture, Best Director for Michael Curtiz, along withing, Screenplay for Howard Koch, and both Julius and Philip Epstein. The film has never had any official big screen remakes produced by Warner Bros., but French filmmaker Francois Truffaut  considered doing so in 1974, despite the film never getting off the ground. 

    There have been a few foreign language remakes of the film however, such as the South American Caboblanco in 1980, the Cuban based film Havana in 1990, and the upcoming Bollywood remake in India allegedly set in Sri Lanka.

    There have also been a few radio performances in the 1940’s, including an episode of The Screen Guild Theater where Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, and Paul Henreid reprised their roles from the film.

    There were also two television series based on the film one in the 1950’s as apart of the wheel series Warner Bros. Presents and one in the early 1980’s starring a post-Starsky and Hutch David Soul, both taking place before the film.
