  1. With Halloween right around the corner, you may have received an invite to a Halloween party at the office or friend’s house.  Halloween is a great time to relive the best parts of child hood. but costumes can be horrifically expense.  If you want to celebrate Halloween with most of your cash still in your wallet, read on for inexpensive but fun Halloween costumes.  The key to a cheap Halloween costume is use what you have on hand.  Look to the following list to light a fire to your imagination in coming up with the perfect cheap Halloween costume:

    • Dig through your closets looking for out of date fashions and go as someone from the 60’s, 70’s or 80’s for the ultimate cheap Halloween costume.
    • Do you have a favorite TV show?  Go as a character from Grey’s Anatomy (if you have access to scrubs), a Survivor (with grubby cut-offs and a bandana perhaps?), American’s Next Top Model (really pull out the stops with the glam).  The possibilities are endless here.  If you are known for rushing home on a particular night to watch a favorite show, incorporate that into your inexpensive Halloween Costume.
    • FBI or Secret Service agent.  For either females or males, your interview suit in the back of the closet will probably be perfect for this.
    • Ugly American Tourist.   Use shorts, black socks with sandals, and a garish shirt.
    • A slightly more sophisticated ghost. Dress all in white clothes, whiten up your face and hands with make-up.
    • Go as a joke.  A couple of possibilies would be a cereal killer (hot glue a couple of cereal boxes on an old shirt, carry with you a grim reaper sword), static cling (pin a couple of socks all over your regular clothes), or a black eyed peas (back one of your eyes with makeup, then pin cut out “P’s” all over your regular clothes).  You are sure to get a few laughs as well as groans.
    • Spend a couple of bucks on some balloons and that will open up a new set of options.  Purple or Green grapes (pin the proper color balloon over a shirt, wear tights or pants that match), jelly beans (put leg holes in a clear garbage bag, put it on, then stuff around your body with multi-colored balloons, tie or tape the top to your shirt), or bubbles (same idea as the grapes, using white or silver balloons and white clothes as the background).
    • Don’t discount your local thrift store.  If you just can’t piece something together from your inventory at home, a trip to Value Village will give you an overwhelming amount of options.

None of these cheap Halloween costumes will cost you more than $5 (usually for an accessory) and many are free based on what you have in your closet.  Enjoy!
