  1. Imagine that you have been working at your computer for several hours and you decide to take a break. When you come back your computer is telling you that there is something wrong or it may be that it just isn’t working the way it’s supposed to. It is important to understand what the error means and that most common computer errors can be corrected, or more importantly, avoided in the first place.

Every action you perform on a PC sends a command through the system which is then processed. If a command cannot be processed, the result is an error within the system. A prime example of this is installing a software program that is not designed for the Windows operating system the PC is running on. It may install okay but when you try to use the program you start to receive errors. Before installing any new software, be sure to check the requirements and make sure that your PC meets them.

Another major cause of system errors is a bad driver. Every piece of hardware in a PC must have a corresponding driver. A driver is a small program that tells the hardware how to react when it is given a command.  It is advisable to visit Microsoft Update often to ensure that all of your drivers and programs are up to date. This can help to eliminate this type of error. It is free to visit the Microsoft update site and run their update program so once again, I can’t stress how important this is.

Most everyone that owns a computer uses the internet. It is imperative to have up-to-date antivirus software to avoid the numerous viruses that can attack your PC while using the internet. There are many free antivirus programs out there and I recommend and regularly use Avira Personal-Free antivirus when I am installing a new operating system on a customer’s computer.

These are just a few of the leading errors that can occur on your computer, but they are the main ones that can be avoided with just a little bit of knowledge about how a computer works. Every computer owner should take the time to at least learn the basic functions of a PC and how to perform routine maintenance that is required for a PC to run at peak performance.
