  1. The quest for space has always been part curiosity, part finding a new place to hang our hat. As the planet population increases, humanity will eventually need to fan out into new places, and possibly new worlds or colonies. Probes sent out many moons ago have returned images of exciting galaxies far, far away that offer a renewed hope for colonizing elsewhere in the great expanse of the universe.

    New Habitable Planets Found

NASA’s Kepler Mission has discovered over 1,000 planets have been found throughout the universe that could potentially sustain human life. This would mean a water source, breathable air, and conditions viable for growing Earth-native vegetation. From among the planets found, 54 orbit a sun that makes them within a habitable zone, while five in particular are said by NASA to be very similar to Earth.

The five planets found are in areas of their respective solar systems that are calculated to have an ideal climate in enough habitable areas that would indicate water in liquid form. The planets orbit a sun-like star, which could mean seasons that are ideal for planting Earth-based vegetation – or even having new foods available for humans to cultivate and grow.

Possible Difficulties with a New Planet

Many of the requirements to sustain life such as food, water, air, and climate are likely present on the newly found planetary potentials, but gravity might prove to be an issue. If there is too much gravity on a planet, it could have a crushing weight on the human body. While this might be habitable to plants and life on the planet that has adapted to the conditions of the planet’s gravity, colonization would not be realistic on such a planet.

Overall, the newly found habitable planets restore hope that when humanity is reaching for the stars, there is a real possibility that we can reach for the planets as well.
