As adults how many teeth are we supposed to have?
The normal adult mouth has 32 teeth by around 13 years of age, excluding the wisdom teeth:
- Incisors (8) – middlemost four teeth on upper and lower jaws
- Canines (4) – pointed teeth just outside the incisors
- Premolars (8) – teeth between the canines and the molars
- Molars (8) – flat teeth in the back of the mouth, best for chewing food
- Wisdoms or third molars (4) – come through the gums at about 18 years, often removed to prevent tooth displacement
