Bleeding hemorrhoids are not generally dangerous. In rare cases, fecal material may get into the circulation and cause an infection, but again that is very unlikely.

The main issue is stopping the bleeding and pain, and a visit to the doctor is usually in order. They will likely want to try “banding” the hemorrhoids first, which is to say they place tiny rubber bands around the hemorrhoids to stop blood flow to them. The idea is that this will let them shrink, and reduce the bleeding. Unfortunately this often isn’t a permanent fix.

Another option is to have them inject a sclerosing agent into the hemorrhoids. This is usually painless, and if successful the hemorrhoids will scar down and shrink. This has a higher chances of being a more or less permanent fix, but for advanced hemorrhoids that are greatly enlarged or bleed often it may not be enough. The final thing to try would then be surgery to remove the hemorrhoid vessel beds entirely. However, even after surgery sometimes hemorrhoids can reform after years.

Overall the bursting hemorrhoids are not really dangerous. A blood infection is a tiny possibility. But the main danger is blood loss, which must be stopped quickly if severe.
