How do you make a plant cell out of clay?
As an art educator my thoughts on this would be to start by molding the clay into a sphere. Wedge the clay by compressing it down and around multiple times. Working the clay will make it easier for you to manipulate it later. I would then compress the clay down into a slab about an inch thick. Lightly draw out the shape of your cell and cut it out with any sharp tool. I would then draw the shapes you want to stand out in the cell, and carve away the negative space that is the background. I would keep the integral parts of the cell higher, and scrape away the background space leaving the edge of the cell in tact.
