How does lignite differ from anthracite?
Anthacite is a hard, shiny form of coal that has been subjected to higher pressures and temperatures than other coals like bituminous and lignite. It has the highest carbon content, generally over 92%. The highest quality (highest carbon content) is used for manufacturing steel.
Lignite is also know as brown coal. It has the lowest carbon content, usually between 25-35%. It tends to have a high water content as well, ranging up to 66%. It comes from naturally compressed peat.
