How long does it take for your teeth to look straight under your braces?

Braces have to keep for usually 2 years (For the extreme condition). It all depends on your tooth structure and whether they are properly aligned or not. If the position of the teeth is not properly aligned then the duration of keeping braces will be getting longer. Many times, the patient does not follow the instruction that is given by the orthodontist so it will add more days for keeping braces on teeth. So if you follow all the advices given by the orthodontist you will get the expected result within a time.

Braces can straighten your teeth rather quickly.  Depending on how crowded or "crooked" your teeth are at the beginning of treatment, you can have fairly straight teeth in approximately 6-12 months.

You may be wondering why treatment often takes 2years.  What your orthodontist is correcting in the remaining 12-18 months is the malocclusion.  Straight teeth are important, but what is very critical to the health of your teeth and supporting structures (gum and bone tissue) is having a functional bite.  This means that the Upper and Lower teeth fit together in an ideal position and function together in the proper way.

When choosing who you are going to trust to correct your malocclusion, keep in mind that Orthodontic Specialists have studied an additional 2-3 years after becoming a dentist.  In addition, a Board Certified Orthodontist has passed several rigorous exams to ensure that they are the top Specialists in their field.  To find a Board Certified Orthodontist, go to www.americanboardortho.com.
