The font you select for your website should be large enough for your visitors to easily read your text, but not too large that it’s over bearing. Stay away from fancy fonts such as Gothic and bold fonts such as Britannic Bold. The best fonts to use on your website will be ones that can easily be read on all mobile devices.

Stay away from black pages that use white fonts. This is hard on the eyes and most visitors don’t like to read these pages. Too many large bold fonts will distract from your website and your content. Use a very light background for your page and a black font.

Be sure to use a larger font size for your title and subtitles so it breaks up the page and makes it easier to read. When selecting your font for your website test your font, size and color on different mobile devices. Make sure it is easy to read and the person doesn’t have to scroll left or right because your font size is too large.

When choosing your fonts, you must be aware of the feeling you want to create on your site.  Should your style be, business, stylish, fun or classic look.  Do you want to attract young people or serious people into your site.   When choosing your fonts, do not use more than three fonts, and make sure your fonts follow the same style.  Also choose bold, wide and narrow types according to the emphasis you want for your labels, banners and text segments.  Never use bold on large segments of text.

Try to make your font combinations and group of text fun, easy to read and dynamic.  Beauty should be accompanied by practicality.  The size of your fonts should intend to accommodate your users taste, reading abilities and preferences.  And do not forget the technical media or devices where your work will display.

What do you do with type? Read it! So why do so many websites make it so damned difficult to do just that? Be it tiny font sizes, crammed line-height, or just plain ugly fonts, it seems that a lot of sites out there are determined to not let you enjoy their content!

By making your type readable, you immediately jump ahead of at least half of the competition, which is fortunate, really, because it’s not that hard!
