Business is all about people.  In order to run a successful business you must treat your team more like partners than employees.  If you can make your employees happy they will in turn make your customers happy.  When your customers are happy you will receive a lot of repeat business and your customers will spread the word which will bring you new business.

When it comes to starting your business you need to factor in quite a bit of information and, in a way, create your own analysis in order to decide the location.   Think of it as Idea -> Money -> Product -> Location -> Employees -> Marketing -> Customers

First you must come up with a business idea, this also ties into your products as the products you are producing or selling will be the livelihood of your business.  Once you have an idea make sure you are 100% comfortable with the idea.  Make sure you are willing to devote all of your time and energy into your business because that is exactly what it will take in the beginning.

You need to make sure that you have not only enough money to open the doors to your business but you need to have enough to run your business on a skeleton crew and production for at least 2 years.  Typically a business can take 1-3 years to pick up but by year 2 you should be making enough to pay your team and expenses.  Don’t expect to be able to pay yourself right away as this is nearly impossible for many small businesses.

Once you know your product, decide the best location to market your product by doing an analysis of demographics.  Once the location is down you must hire quality employees and make them feel as if they are a team rather than a group of people working for you.  Ask your employees for their input and ideas so they feel valuable to the business.  This will also help you to gain knowledge that you may not have had before and this can greatly help your business.

Marketing can be quite tricky but there are many ways to go about it.  You may want to consider looking into how your competitors are marketing.  Go to your competitors businesses and see how they run things, it’s extremely helpful to see who you are up against.

Last is your customers you must give them a quality product, excellent service, and do whatever it takes to make them happy even if that means you loose a little bit of money.  It will help you in the long-run.

Wishing you the best of luck and if you have any other questions please feel free to ask me anything…
