Is China a threat to America?

Like any strong country, China wants control over its regional neighborhood.  Furthermore, most Chinese believe China naturally belongs in the position of leader of the Asia-Pacific region.  This creates tension between China and the USA, which is currently in that position.  China will increasingly demand more influence in Asia, which will pressure the USA to withdraw into a smaller role.  China also wants to change some of the rules of international affairs, largely written or sponsored by the USA.  China sees itself acting defensively, not offensively toward the USA, and does not currently aspire to be a global superpower like the USA.
