Is wordpress good for a eCommerce site? If not, what other tools are better?

WordPress is an excellent tool for starting an eCommerce site.  It has a strong developer and user community.  There is a wealth of information and how to guides available.  It is by far one of the most popular tools utilized when starting a web based business. There are many free plugins (add ons) that allow you to accomplish a total eCommerce solution without needing to have programming expertise/knowledge.

if you need a custom solution that available plugins do not handle it is typically less expensive to have a custom plugin developed to provide that functionality instead of developing a complete custom eCommerce site from scratch.

For 80% of startups WordPress is more than enough to get started and very likely all that you will ever need.  Once you start getting major traffic and money is coming in the out of the box WordPress configuration and your hosting solution will need to be customized in order to scale, but you can configure a WordPress site to scale to just about any traffic level.  There are even custom hosting solutions such as wpengine that are customized to scale WordPress sites.

Hi, WordPress is better for eCommerce but i think shopify, magento, bigcommerce are better then wordpress for an eCommerce site. You can use shopify for small business site and magento for big business sites.

Magento is the leading solution for small and medium enterprises (the Community Edition is free and open source). WordPress is meant to be a blogging tool and it can only do eCommerce by using third party plugins, and that makes it very vulnerable to hacking. Hackers scan the internet looking for known vulnerabilities for this types of plugins. Only use wordpress for a very small ecommerce and update frequently.

WordPress theme can be extremely suitable for a eCommerce website, if it comes with all the features needed. I’m seriously considering building my own online store with this WP theme https://www.templatemonster.com/wordpress-themes/monstroid2.html . It looks quite decent, as for me.
