Should I look into a tax attorney to waive penalties and interest?
You generally have to have some reason to abate penalties (and in some cases, interest), such as heath problems, family problems, etc. You should contact a tax attorney, as almost all tax attorneys offer a free no-strings initial consultation. By the way, tax attorneys do not charge any more than most CPAs or enrolled agents! Unfortunately there are a number of unethical “debt resolution” companies out there that will charge exorbitant prices. As a tax attorney myself, I often find that my fees are about half of what these non-tax lawyer firms charge.
