What are good foods to eat when having the flu?
Well, from my own personal experience that include what I was taught by my parents who had eight children here are some foods to eat when you have the flu. Of course, Chicken soup this is an age old remedy that may not cure the flu but it can certainly be soothing to an individual especiall one with a sore throat or congestion. Another good food to eat while having the flu is apple sauce. There is something about an apple that is settling to the stomach. I know my parents use to always give us apple juice as baby’s when we had an upset stomach, it still works for adults along with apple sauce. While we’re on the subject of beverages, when suffering from stomach flu nothing can be more beneficial then a sports drink of some kind such as gatroade. These can help keep a person from becoming dehydrated, also lemon line soda such as 7 UP can be quite helpful. One more food item that is good to have on hand with the flu are saltine crackers, these will go well with the items listed above or on their own, they also can help settle a stomach.
When having the flu it is important that you drink a lot, for example, still water, herbal tea or fruit tea. Chicken soup as already mentioned is also good as it may reduce the flu symptoms. Apart from drinking you should eat foods which contain a lot of vitamin C like kiwi fruits, oranges, bell peppers and broccoli.
Another good natural remedy which helps against the flu is ginger. Its spiciness heats up your body and helps to relieve chills. Furthermore, it can combat bacteria and viruses. If you like ginger you can make a carrot-ginger-soup or a ginger tea. Other good foods with an antibacterial and antiviral effect are garlic, onions and honey. If I have the flu I make a kind of tea made from onions, garlic and honey. I take half an onion and one or two garlic cloves, cut them into pieces, put them in a small bowl, add boiled water and one or two tablespoons honey. Then I take a few spoonfuls of this mix throughout the day. It always helps me.
