What do you think of the new movie, The Campaign?

Putting Will Ferrell and Zack Galifianakis together in a film is genius because their comic styles are so vastly different.  Ferrell is in-your-face, bawdy, over-the-top, and often raunchy.  Galifianakis, however, specializes in awkward humor and physical comedy while being relatively clean.  In "The Campaign," each of these comedians’ characters embody their comedy style in their campaign technique.  Cam Brady (Ferrell) plays dirty and is unabashedly frank while Marty Huggins (Galifianakis) tries to play by the rules and be a nice guy.  These two opposing comedic styles and character traits make for some very funny exchanges between the two.

The supporting cast is also very good with each individual character having their own set of quirks making the film so much more interesting.  The standout performance in this film, though, is Dylan McDermott of FX’s dark drama series, "American Horror Story."  Seeing him in such a darkly twisted series, then having him be a funny man in "The Campaign" is great.  The interesting thing about McDermott and his character, Tim Wattley, is that he is hilarious while playing everything straight.  He isn’t trying to be funny in the film… which makes his performance that much more outrageous and funny.

The biggest drawback is that this film is quite predictable.  It ultimately doesn’t matter too much, though, because the film just serves as a vehicle for Ferrell and Galifianakis to make the audience laugh.  And they certainly deliver.  The comedy, especially from Ferrell, is a bit too raunchy at times, but overall it is funny.  You won’t remember "The Campaign" for years to come, but it is a good watch.

I hope that helps.  And please check out my other reviews.

The humor in this movie is very raw and crude (which doesn’t bother me), and it has a very simple storyline. I was ready to give this movie a rating of a 5 or below until i stopped looking into the movie too much, and saw it for what it is. The purpose of a comedy is to make people laugh, and that is exactly what myself and the rest of the theater did for the majority of the movie. The movie is so relevant as well with the upcoming presidential elections, and i feel this movie helps take the edge of the brutality of the current Obama vs. Romney.
