The main difference is that it is run by google so it is on most phone that you can get out there today. Widgets is the biggest feature that you can’t find on any other os. A widget is basically icons and shortcuts for various different apps that you have installed. If there is an app that you liked that isn’t available on the app store anymore for one reason or another you can simply download the .apk file from various websites and install it from there. Its also easily modible so that’s always a plus

The Android operating system, known by Google, is Linux based. Android, like Linux, is open sourced and free to the public. The major differences between Linux, Mac, or Window’s based operating systems are the “kernels” and the free (Linux) or proprietary software “programs” (usually not free or heavily restricted) that is mostly associated with it. This is why some programs are only available exclusively on one operating system and / or over time become adaptable across multiple platforms. It’s also important to note, that there are more operating systems in existence, but these however are the ones that are most commonly used and are more popular.
