Why do large companies like Time Warner Cable have such horrible service?

I would say that the good/excellent customer service exists but its hard to realize due to the size of the company.  Mainly because big corporations usually outsource to save money and the experience with outsourced employees is almost always usually disheartening!  Your chances of realizing good or bad customer service is easier when dealing with smaller, local, homegrown companies because there are only a few people involved with managing the company and interacting with the customers.  When dealing with companies like Time Warner Cable, your chances of getting someone on the phone or to your home that goes above and beyond seems slim, but they are there.
