Why do we get the flu most often in the winter?
Flu is caused by a virus, and cold conditions in particular pull moisture out of the droplets, which are released by coughing or sneezing- so it lingers out in the air much longer. Also, in winter, virus transmission is more likely due to the low humidity air, drying out the nasal passage, helping the virus to ‘stick’.
We get Flu often in winter because the Flu viruses survived best at low humidity. Humidity affects the composition of the fluid, namely the concentrations of salts and proteins in respiratory droplets, and this affects the survival rates of the flu virus.
At low humidity, respiratory droplets evaporate completely and the virus survives well under dry conditions.
In the winter appropriate conditions for Influenza virus get created. The humidity and the temperature gets favorable so this environment is comfortable for influenza virus. One more thing is that people stays indoor mostly during winter and they come accross to each other in home so virus can easily circulate from one to another.
