Soapstone, just like the countertops. Soapstone has that timeless look, and it’s fairly easy to maintain. You just oil it once in a while. By now it’s got a few chips along the edges, but I don’t mind. I’ve got some clients who like perfection, but I don’t. The kitchen may look old, but the appliances are state-of-the-art. We really like to cook, and a good stove was important to us. We fleetingly considered a restored gas range, but Michael finally went for the reliability of a Wolf. We have a division of labor he cooks and I bake and that’s supported by a division of space. The middle area, between the two islands, is my domain. I roll out pastry dough on that table and the marble keeps it cool.
