A French name for a Spanish brand, how did that come about?
Actually, when it was founded in 1907 its name was Eugenia de Montijo, in homage to the Spanish-born empress who was so popular at that time. In the seventies, with women’s liberation and social changes, it became MARIE CLAIRE. It was an influential French woman’s name that evoked sophistication and elegance, values that we expressed in advertising campaigns that were landmarks at the time and made the brand a fashion icon. People still remember our famous television slogan Marie Claire, Marie Claire, a pair of tights for every woman to wear [Marie Claire, Marie Claire, un panty para cada mujer]. We have always used campaigns that are powerful and different. On our web page you can see a compilation of adverts broadcast from the seventies up to now. We launched a special collection in collaboration with major Spanish fashion designers, such as Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada, Francis Mont
