I don’t agree with Catherine MacKinnon in the sense that she’s very anti-porn to the point of wanting to outlaw it, it seems, and that she essentializes all women, i.e. she acts like women are all the same regardless of other parts of their identity such as race, social class, religion, politics, etc. As far as the anti-porn angle, I can perfectly understand women who don’t like porn, and I have certainly seen how degrading a lot of it appears even to the women in them who agreed to do those scenes. But the more I read and hear comments by some of the women who do porn, the more I realize “different strokes for different folks.” That is to say that not all women who do porn came from sob-story backgrounds, and not all women who do porn are put into the kind of scenes that are just very degrading. Women in porn like Jenna Jameson are in control sometimes, or at least I can understand somewhat a woman like her who says it’s empowering. So if they choose that path, that’s their business..
