A Woodpecker or Flicker has made several holes in our siding. What can we do to prevent this from occuring and how do we fix the damage?
Prevention of “bird” holes in siding is very difficult! There are a variety of theories to drive or scare these pesky critters away but, unfortunately, none of them work consistently. We have been testing Woodpecker Bird Houses on many homes in the recent years. The homes have reduced or eliminated reoccuring Flicker/Woodpecker holes. Fixing the damage of these birds can be accomplished in two ways. The first is to replace the actual boards that have been damaged. This method is rather costly but it totally eliminates any trace of damage. The second method is to “plug” the hole with a piece of siding to match. This method is most popular because it is less expensive and the plug looks much like a knot in the siding.
