AirAsia claims the KLIA-East Terminal project included a serious and in-depth study. Has any environmental study has been conducted?
The proposal by AirAsia and Sime Darby Bhd. for the KLIA-East project was presented to the Government in mid-2007 or so. The Cabinet approval for the project was handed down in December 2007. During that period, the officials and authorities scrutinized the proposal from every prospective aspect. The design for the proposed KLIA-East Terminal incorporates various innovative features that are environmentally friendly. We believe KLIA-East will be the most eco-friendly terminal in the country when it is completed. For instance, the runway and taxiways were designed to ensure that aircraft taxi for shorter distances, reducing fuel burn.
