The EWI4000s and EWI USB feature EVI / Brass Style fingering options built in which is of particular interest to brass and EVI players. The innovative new “EVI Fingering Mode” is an alternate fingering system designed in November of 2005 for Akai by EVI player Matt Traum based on Nyle Steiner’s original EVI system. Matt Traum adapted Steiner’s original EVI system to the physical key layout of an EWI. For the first time ever, both woodwind players and brass players can play the same physical instrument using the fingerings they are familiar with. When this EVI system is selected, brass and EVI players can play the EWI4000s and EWI USB with very little change to their already learned technique. This system also allows for all of the EVI trill key fingerings from the EVI. This is a big plus for experienced EVI players.
