No, it is NOT possible to connect the Akai EWI-USB to external (“hardware”) MIDI modules via a simple USB-MIDI cable. These cables are USB “devices” and they can only be connected to a USB “host”, usually a PC/Mac. The EWI-USB is also a “device”, which would need a portable USB host device, which in turn supports USB-MIDI (not all hosts support all kinds of devices). Moreover, this portable host should be able to provide power (5V) to the EWI-USB, i.e., it should run on batteries. While it is technically possible to develop such a device, I don’t know of any commercially available solutions. Furthermore, it is *not* possible to connect the EWI-USB to synth modules that have a USB (device) port on them. Those ports have to be connected to a host, too, and they are usually used to connect the synth to a PC/Mac.
