Akai EWI USB Patchman Music Can I use a wireless USB system with my EWI USB?
No, commercially available wireless USB solutions cannot be used with the EWI-USB. Although in principle they could work (but they likely do not support USB-MIDI), usually the transmitter of these systems is not battery-powered. So it does not make much sense to use them as the EWI-USB would be tethered to the power. They are very expensive too. The dream gadget for the Akai EWI-USB would be a small, light, battery powered USB host with built-in wireless transmitter, and a receiver with both USB and MIDI connectors. The receiver would be either USB-powered or externally powered for standalone MIDI operation. It could contain an additional USB hub for connecting other USB-MIDI controllers or foot pedals. This device could be built from cheap, existing components. The only problem is that the market is very small (remember, only a fraction of the small group of EWI-USB buyers would buy this), so it is likely not economical to produce it.
