Bicarbonate of soda or sodium bicarbonate is another term for baking soda. baking powder is a combination of sodium bicarbonate and cream of tartar or tartaric acid to make baking easier. You just have to have one can instead of both. I happen to keep all three ingredients in my baking shelf. Putting an acid like lemon juice in baking soda, an alkaline substance, just makes a fizzy mess. Try it in a dish and see what happens.
