Answer this question: if a man is falsely accused of rape, should he stay away from women for the rest of his life? And if he is falsely accused of rape again, is it his fault?
The only way Michael Jackson could have protected himself from being the victim of another false allegation is if he had completely cut off contact with children after 1993. Molestation can occur anywhere, not just at night and not just in a bed. He could have put an end to the sleepovers and still have been accused of abusing a child someplace else. The sleepovers might give more credence to the allegations in the minds of the general public but their opinions should be irrelevant because they are not the ones responsible for investigating claims of child molestation. That job belongs to members of law enforcement and regardless of how strange Michael Jacksons behaviour might appear to some, falling asleep next to a child is not a crime. Peoples opinions on the sleepovers should not matter; the facts of this case should be the only determinants of Michael Jackson’s innocence or guilt. If members of law enforcement are not doing their jobs properly, that is not Michael Jackson’s fault.
