Anthony, what was the significance of proposing on a piece of butcher paper?
That year I had to teach in Los Angeles. I had just finished my master’s program, and I wasn’t going to spend another year subbing. So I took a job in Pasadena with the intention of getting some money so we could finally put our dream together and get married. The butcher paper related to my first year being a teacher with my own classroom. The reason why I was up there in L.A. was so I could propose, so I thought, “Why not include the kids?” The kids wrote it. It said, “Will you marry Mr. V?” I unraveled the paper on the bed in the hotel room. What was the most difficult part of planning the wedding? Anthony: Being able to budget everything. We had never really done money things together, so this was our first venture. And it was a huge one. Julia: We didn’t want to put everything on credit cards and accrue debt just for a good party. Anthony: But we wanted to have a good party! Did you go use referrals to find your vendors? Christopher Todd Photography Anthony Villasenor and Julia Pe
