Not only have I heard of it, I’ve anesthetized patients having it done. Except that we call it a VP (ventriculo-peritoneal) shunt. It is a tube that connects the ventricles on the brain (pockets of cerebrospinal fluid) to the abdominal cavity. The fluid that builds up in the brain can drain into the abdomen, where it is absorbed. The increased intracranial pressure is then relieved.
