Are all spinal injuries permanent?

0

Hi Karen,

The short answer is no, not all spinal injuries are permanent. However, a lot are.

There are lots of different types of spinal injuries that range in severity. The reason that many spinal injuries cause don’t heal and leave the injured person with permanent mobility issues is related to the complexity of the spinal cord. The neurons in the spinal cord have a limited ability to heal themselves because of this.

It’s best to speak to a doctor or surgeon about your injury. It might be that it will heal over time, or is treatable with surgery. I had a friend who had a spinal injury that was fixed in an operation in a Southampton neurosurgery.
