Are all types of diabetes lifestyle diseases?
Type 1 diabetes is a lifestyle disease because you have to take insulin at every meal and snack for the rest of your life. I disagree with davlin111 though. You can be born with Type 1 diabetes or not. Type 1 diabetes is autoimmune, and it happens when the beta cells (insulin making cells) are killed off by your white blood cells. You can treat it by eating healthy, exercising, and taking insulin. I think Type 2 diabetes is also a lifestyle disease. It is caused by your body resisting insulin leading to hyperglycemia. Again, you can treat it by regular exercise, eating healthy, and using insulin. I don’t think Type 3 diabetes is a lifestyle disease. It is found when a mother is pregnant with a baby. Her pancreas has to work harder to make the same amount of insulin. It can be treated by exercise, special meal plans, and insulin injections. Type 4 diabetes is a lifestyle disease because the body makes too much insulin leading to hypoglycemia. Good luck with your report!
