Are amusement park rides safe?

Are you feeling lucky? Almost any piece of mechanical equipment has the potential to develop a fault. Amusement park rides are no different in this respect and getting on any ride does involve a degree of risk. Careful maintenance and safety inspections may reduce that risk, but it is impossible to guarantee that any ride is 100% safe. However, it really is a matter of balancing up the degree of risk against the benefits of having a fun day out. The vast majority of people who go on amusement park rides come off without injury. However, for the small amount of people who have lost their lives or been injured by rides the statistics are irrelevant.
