Are anger management classes a good way to help abusers stop abusing?

Most anger management classes run for somewhere between 6 and 8 weeks. We believe that programs for anger management don’t address all of the specific issues that batterers need to work through. They are also far too short to take the time to really learn skills that could interrupt the cycle of violence. Instead, we recommend a batterer intervention program. Most are 52 weeks, but some are 18 months. Batterer intervention programs can also be useful because “mirroring” happens in a group setting where batterers can see themselves in the other participants and therefore take responsibility for their own abuse.
