Are Antiperspirants Safe?
Antiperspirants have been used for more than fifty years and the overwhelming weight of evidence indicates that they are safe and effective. The companies which produce deodorants and antiperspirants spend considerable time and money evaluating the safety and effectiveness of their products well before they reach supermarket shelves. Most countries also have very active regulatory authorities which require producers to prove the safety of all product ingredients before they are approved for market. Scientific evidence that antiperspirant products do not cause breast cancer can be found in a large-scale study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute in October 2002. This position is backed up by healthcare providers, cancer specialists and women’s health groups around the world. Some women are told not to use antiperspirants before having a mammogram.
