Are any follow-up procedures necessary following a spinal fusion surgery?
Follow-up procedures are usually not necessary following a spinal fusion surgery. Additional surgery only becomes necessary if an infection occurs, if the metal rods become prominent, if the vertebrae do not grow together and completely fuse (pseudarthrosis), or if the curve continues to progress above or below the fusion site after the surgery.
