Are bars / resturants expensive in Anchorage Alaska?
Yes, everything is expensive in Anchorage and in Alaska generally. For restaurant meals and drinks, expect to pay at least 50% more than in most places in the “Lower 48.” Housing is quite expensive too. Even gasoline costs considerably more there, because they ship Alaska’s oil to California to refine it and then ship it back to Alaska. However, if you get paid enough, the life there is nice in a lot of ways. There are a lot of interesting things to do in Alaska, especially outdoor things. I’m sure you realize, though, that in winter you’ll be plowing through the snow all the time. Anchorage gets a lot more snow than places in the interior like Fairbanks. The days in winter are quite short, too, though not as short as they are farther north in Alaska (Anchorage is considerably south of the Arctic Circle). Equally, the days in summer are quite long, but not as long as farther north.
