Each person finds braces quite different. Placing braces takes about an hour. However, it is a relatively painless procedure. The following couple of days the teeth may be uncomfortable however they soon settle down and you get used to the new feeling. Patients generally adjust very quickly to the braces and, before you know, it is just another part of everyday life.  more

Each person finds braces quite different. The first few days after initial bracket placement the teeth may be uncomfortable however they quickly get used to the new sensation. In addition, new advances in the bracket and wire designs over the last several years have made orthodontic treatment far more comfortable. There's usually an adjustment period when braces first go on, but any discomfort normally passes very quickly. Today's braces are definitely designed with patient comfort in mind. The brackets are small with rounded edges that are less likely to irritate the cheeks, lips, and tongue. Modern technological advances have resulted in specially alloyed wires and springs which are more comfortable, can speed up treatment, and may decrease the number of necessary appointments.

A. Today's braces are smaller and smoother than ever. They are designed to minimize irritate of the tongue and cheeks as little as possible. The high-tech titanium arch wires Dr. Fried uses are activated by a patient's body temperature, applying gentle forces over a long time period. When new wires are placed, there may be period of discomfort, lasting 24 to 48 hours.
