Breast reductions may be covered by your medical insurance, however, certain criteria must first be met. Reduction Mammoplasty is considered to be medically necessary for treatment of macomastia (large breasts) in patients at least 18 years of age when the following criteria are met. Macromastia is causing at least one of the following conditions/symptoms with documented failure of at least one continuous 3 month trial of appropriate medical management. ****Shoulder, upper back/neck pain, and or ulnar nerve palsy for which no etiology has been found on appropriate evaluation. ****Intertrigo, dermatitis eczema, or hidradenitis at the inframammary fold. ****If other co-morbidities are present, breast size has been documented as exacerbating the underlying condition. ****Pre-operative photos confirm the presence of significant grooving from bra straps and intertrigo present.
