Are car dealers obliged to sell vehicles to “foreign” consumers?
They are indeed! The principle of free movement of goods is strictly binding throughout the EU. A dealer’s refusal to sell to a consumer just because he/she is resident in another member state violates Community law and may be punishable by considerable fines. Experience has shown that these problems have practically stopped occurring – consumers can order their vehicles wherever they choose, and expect to get them.
