Are Carpe Diem tattoos really overdone?
All ‘word’ or ‘quote’ tattoos are overdone in a very big way, and I’ll tell you why, and how that came about. The tattoo studio/soap operas on television are somewhat to blame, because they’ve drilled into young people’s brains that all tattoos simply MUST have, (ahem) ‘Deep Personal Meaning’ and how DARE anyone get a tattoo that doesn’t. Now the older crowd doesn’t buy into that nonsense, and they get what they like, and it looks great. But the young ones, and you’ve heard ’em, if you’re a regular in this section, hassle each other about what their tattoo MEANS to them… they aren’t aware, apparantly, that it’s still a free country and that they can get something cause it’s pretty or looks awesome or whatever. Since it simply must have the ‘Deep Personal Meaning’ they have to resort to concepts, usually identifiable only with words, since they can’t figure out a picture, or rather, ART, that will properly represent their ideals.
