Are cedar chests difficult to clean or maintain?
No. Cedar chests require care and cleaning similar to that of any quality furniture piece. Routine dusting – with a soft cloth or if you prefer, with a very soft brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner – is the most frequent type of care required. Paste wax applied carefully and occasionally will prolong the life of the finish and improve its appearance. To prevent cracking in the finish and loosening of the joints, cedar chests should not be exposed to extreme fluctuations in temperature or humidity. It is best not to display them where they will be exposed to constant direct sunlight. Plus, you should always use protection like a cloth mat or a coaster if you want to place fluid-filled containers on cedar chests.
