Are Clean-Coal Hopes Just Pipe Dreams In Western NY?
Plans have been drafted to turn both the Jamestown and the Huntley Stations near Buffalo into clean-coal power generation and research facilities within the next 10 years. The Huntley Station in Tonawanda, proposing to implement clean-coal burning, would cost about $1.5 billion, while the Jamestown plant, experimenting with the Oxy-coal technology associated with Praxair, would cost about $145 million. The Buffalo News was quick to point out the unlikelihood of the needed funds. However, if the money is raised and the plans are put into action, New York could stand as an international example of cleaner, greener energy conservation and production.
