Are Coaching session confidential?
Coaching of Individual Clients should be confidential to the extent allowed by law, with the exception of statements by Clients that they intend to commit a crime or cause harm to themselves or others. It is not the Coach’s place to inform the Client’s family members, spouse, friends, colleagues or the media about a Client’s statements or decisions and a Coach should not do so. However, statements made in public by Individual Clients or Group Clients are not confidential because of the possibility of others overhearing. Additionally, to the extent that Group Coaching is taking place, Group Client’s should not expect confidentiality where any memebr of the Group has the potential to disclose information. While a Coach can request that Group participants keep information confidential, the Coach cannot take responsibility for the actions of Group participants or any disclosures they may make.
