Are cognitive enhancing medications disease modifying (eg Donepzil, Rivastigmine, Galantamine)?
Choline esterase inhibitors are not disease modifying. They may improve memory and delay nursing home admission in mild disease. The improvement in memory tends to be modest lasting for perhaps 6 to 12 months before declining to pre-medication levels. Not all patients respond to cholinesterase inhibitors.
