Are Conservatives in Red States Getting Away With Murder?
Contributed by: George Tirebiter Data from the Bureau of Justice Statistics and the National Center for Health Statistics concludes red states lead the country in violent crime, divorce, illegitimacy and incarceration. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, in 2003 9 out of 10 states with the highest number of total inmates per capita were red. The top 10 states with the most female inmates per residents were all red. And yet how safe are Red states? Not safe, so the data concludes. Red states lead the country in violent crime. The top 15 states in rates by death by firearms in 2003 were red. Statistics are also available on obesity and poverty, and once again it isn’t a very pretty picture when you factor in the red states. The five states with the highest obesity rates – Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi, Louisiana and West Virginia – also have much higher rates of poverty than the national average.
