Are Contestants covered by Insurance?

Yes. SPI has administered the Contestant Accident Insurance Program for the NLBRA since 1983. The Contestant Insurance policy provides blanket Excess Accident Medical benefits, along with an Accidental Death & Dismemberment Benefit. The program covers the eligible members while at, competing in, including direct travel to and from sanctioned NLBRA Rodeos. The Accident Medical benefits are Excess over any other valid or collectible insurance that the Member may have (i.e. covered for health insurance via their parents). Although the Medical benefits are Excess, the program will reimburse out of pocket expenses on the claimant’s primary health insurance plan (deductibles, coinsurance, etc). If there is no primary health insurance, the NLBRA program would pay first-dollar, after the $100 deductible is satisfied. If other insurance pays toward the claim, the NLBRA policy deductible is waived.
